1) Drying agents

a.   Calamine not Caladryl

b.  Aveeno

2) Antihistamines (itch)

a.   Benadryl 12.5mg/5ccor 12.5 mg/tsp

b.  Hydroxyzine or Promethazine (promethazine)

3) Antipyretics (fever)

a.   Tylenol is preferable to Motrin/Advil/Ibuprofen

b.   Never aspirin (causes Rye’s syndrome with chickenpox)

4) Secondary Infection

a.   Neosporin

b.  Bactoban (prescription)

c.   Oral /IV  antibiotics for severe cases

5) Antivirals

a.   Acyclovir is indicated for the immunocompromised (ie HIV)

b.  Acyclovir is very expensive and of questionable benefit in healthy children

6) Passive immunization

a.   VZIG for the immunodeficient and special cases

7) Tell your friends how you wish you had followed DR Dick’s advice and been immunized
